As you can maybe guess, it's not about the pics, it's about what you're putting under them. There are several problems with using server-dependent links (ones starting with ia###). So if you're going to link to specific tracks, use the usual archive.org details pages' "download" pointers like

http://www.archive.org/download/gd71-08-06.aud.bertrando.yerys.129.sbeok.shnf/gd08-06-71d1t08_vbr.mp3

Oh hey, I see we even had this conversation before, so we're *both* wasting our time on this now.

What I see as the problem is you guys have no nuts. The only way to solve this problem is to post links, fire up sites like speeding arrow and spank the whino lawyers in court. In days of old, men were brave and bold. The men of today, do as there told and meekly pay there taxes.

It may seem really cool to hassle this forum or archive, but please stop. I really enjoy listening to the dead everyday, and becuase of the turbulence of life I simply don't have a solid collection of music to fall back on. If Diana doesn't want you to post stuff, then just stop. Be polite, and don't ruin a good thing for everyone else. I mean this in all good respect, but c'mon man.

word up my man!

what the hell were those snaps? are you a truck driver? were those your photos? i kept the second one.... WILD RED SKY!

the deal is, i posted the same pic as above, but attached to the "Morning Dew" from 6/10/73.... the title was "What the F**K do i know....." (obviously, not hardly anything) and DH came along and deleted the pic and link!! i am so curious as to why..... ? i really don't like "ANONYMOUS/SECRETIVE BEHAVIOUR."

i am sure the reason is very obvious to her, i just wish she would explain so i don't go posting the same pic, linked to this raging "Eleven" from 1968.... and then she comes back along and kills it again. Like Diana, just explain explicitly, would you -- the fun thing about this forum is THE MUSIC -- and all i am trying to do is just throw up A BIG ARROW, that says, hey fellow Dead Freaks, NOW HEAR THIS!

(AM I REALLY SOOOOOO BAD?)

Holy shit folks. Can we just drop this? Godddamn, it's a freakin' music forum and if the people who are so kind as to run it ask us to follow a few simple rules, or even decide to edit one our posts, so be it. I'm not so sure they "owe" us an explaination. I think we owe them far more than the other way around. Crap, perhaps we can get Arlen Specter to open a congressional investigation of our obvious loss of civil rights and the serious threat to what makes this country great.

no, i think that kind of viewpoint is silly. you sound scared. if someone or something is not clear you ask for an explanation/clarification. the idea that you just take something in a public forum at face value w/o really understanding it -- that is exactly the mindset Fascist governments impose on their populace

for my part. i have done nothing but ask for clarification..... please, if you will, point me to the archive.org details page, i can't find it. i never said i was "owed" an explanation. i asked for one. sorry if that has made you uncomfortable.

Scared? No, just of the opinion that if you ask for an explanation and she doesn't give you one, why get upset about it? (if you weren't upset, I apologize, but the re-worked title of your post kind of gives that impression)

Oh,yeah, and bringing up a comparison of this situation and fascist opression is a little silly in my opinion. I don't think Mussolini would have really gotten into a 73 Darkstar.

so be it....

i just dont see why i have to catch flak from the peanut gallery for trying to get clarification.

it's a public forum. when the moderator modifies or deletes a post i think it is in everyone's best interest if there was an explanation. that way we (me and diana) don't keep retreading the same ground over and over. (this is like a formatting issue for chrissakes! a simple post of one photo linked to a track. the whole thing IS NOT content related.)

i am still waiting for a link to "the archive.org details page."

Should have said this in my other answer, but there is no archive.org 'details page' as in a single page with details on this and that - what Diana was referring to was the page of details, if you will, that you see whenever you link to any item in the archive, e.g. if you click on
http://www.archive.org/details/gd1971-08-06.fob-SonyECM22p.miller.88816.sbeok.flac16

it will take you to that show's 'details page'.

Hope that helps.

One other aspect to consider is to use good judgment in which particular download links you post, in line with my earlier advice to "keep the pointers to stream-only filesets here streamable (only)."

I'm guessing an internet petition wouldn't be as effective a second time around...

The pseudo-radical ‘let’s-break-the-rules’ posturing of certain people is getting tedious in the extreme. The bottom line is that this is not your domain – you have been kindly invited in here by hosts who are, on the whole, genial, welcoming and far more tolerant than I would ever be. All that’s asked of you is that you abide by their wishes for the smooth running of the place. If you don’t like that simple stipulation then leave. Get yourself a server and set up your own internet outpost run by your rules, and good luck to you. Just stop acting like you’re hard done by and enjoy what you’ve got. That’s what I intend to do.

Lady says please – I say thank you.

she is telling me to reference the Archive.org "details" page.

As I understand it Diana has no objection to you providing links to other shows on the archive. The objection is to the style of link you have used.

For example on the September 28 1975 Lindley Meadows show if instead of using links such as this, culled from the html code (it shouldn't work - but please don't click on this link):

h..p://ia310120.us.archive.org/2/items/GratefulDead/gratefuldead.gif?cnt=0

which Diana says causes issues with the servers, you instead use the links the rest of us use, in this format

http://www.archive.org/details/gd75-09-28.sbd.bertha-ashley.22257.sbeok.shnf

there would be no problem.

And please, enjoy this show!

RapidShare charges $$$ for a premium account! Making money by hosting Grateful Dead music has been prohibited since day one. RapidSHare and something called UseNext are way overboard in violating band policies. Posting their links here is asking for trouble.

The Etree Community Tracker is a different story...
